Dahua Thermal Cameras FAQ, Thermal cameras, which do not require a light source, are excellent for providing enhanced coverage in diverse environments, such as those with harsh conditions or extreme darkness. In addition, thermal cameras have long range detection and temperature measurement capabilities, allowing them to be used in conjunction with visible light cameras to achieve all-weather monitoring and comprehensive surveillance.

Dahua’s thermal cameras covers both thermal and visual cameras to meet different user demands. Thermal cameras are widely used in applications such as perimeter protection, protection of key components (electrical facilities, gas pumps, etc.) and over-heating detection in critical infrastructure, forest fire prevention, and other scenarios.

Visible light image #

1.When the visible light image features the maximum magnification on TPC, the image is blurred.

Description:

Visible light image of the binocular heavy PTZ is normal at low magnification and completely blurred at maximum magnification. Click Manual Focus to ensure clear images.

Cause analysis:

The visible light focusing parameters are not configured to the best effect.

Solution:

Contact R&D technical support, reset visible light focusing parameters, re-take curves, and adjust focusing parameters.

2.There is no image under visible light and the picture is completely black on TPC.

Description:

For small stereo vision bullet cameras, there is no image under visible light and the picture is completely black, and occasionally flashes horizontal stripes. The image has no change when a handshakes in front of the lens, but there is stream and OSD information.

Cause analysis:

Poor or damaged contact for FPC wire under visible light.

Solution:

1)Unplug and plug the FPC wire under visible light.
2)Replace the FPC wire under visible light.
3.Abnormal color of the visible light image on TPC.

Description:

The stereo vision PTZ shows images under visible light, but the scene edge features abnormal color. Restarting the device and resetting the visible light parameters do not work.

Cause analysis:

Poor or damaged contact for FPC wire under visible light.

Solution:

1)Unplug and plug the FPC wire under visible light.
2)Replace the FPC wire under visible light.
4.There is no image under visible light and the picture is completely gray on TPC.

Description:

The stereo vision heavy PTZ gives no image under visible light, the image has no change when a hand shakes before the lens, and the serial port prints are messy.

Cause analysis:

Visible light movement is damaged.

Contact R&D technical support for instructions on replacing visible light movement, and then replace the movement.

Description:

In the low illumination scenes, there are relatively more noise points under visible light and the images show poor effects.

Cause analysis:

In low illumination scenes, due to insufficient illumination, visible light images have relatively more noise points.

Solution:

Increase the advanced noise reduction value. (It’s set by default that basic noise reduction is enabled.

6.Messy OSD information for visible light images on TPC.

Description:

Cause analysis:

The visible light movement program is old, leading to this problem occasionally.

Solution:

Upgrade the visible light movement program or turn off OSD information with tools.

7.The visible light image is slightly red on TPC.

Description:

The visible light image has a red picture. Switching the black-white mode can take effect and the color is normal, but the image is always red in the color mode.

Cause analysis:

ICR switching anomaly under visible light

Solution:

1、Adjust the white balance mode to manual mode, and adjust the red gain and blue gain to be close to the real scene.
2、Replace ICR under visible light

8.The zoom of visible light image is invalid on TPC.

Description:

The zoom of visible light image of small binocular PTZ is invalid, but other functions are normal.

Cause analysis:

The main print switch is on.

Solution:

Enter serial port debugging mode or shell mode, and set dh_keyboard to 1.

9.Visible light movement cannot focus clearly on TPC.

Description:

Visible light (movement version) is not clearly focused under large or small magnification, and manual focusing is invalid.

Cause analysis:

The curve of visible light lens is not taken well.

Solution:

1. Use the netSDK or ViscaClient tool to expand again the curve, generally by 15 steps;

2. If the visible light movement does not have enough margin and the expansion cannot work, replace the movement.

Thermal imaging #

1.The TPC image has ghost or is completely gray.

Description:

In case of switching scenes, the thermal image might has ghost or is completely gray. The pesudo-color can be switched. The device restart and the recovery to defaults do not work.

Cause analysis:

The thermal imaging baffle is stuck.

Solution:

Click Shutter Correction in the FFC setting of the web interface. If the image cannot be restored, replace the thermal imaging baffle.

2.TPC image has vertical lines.

Description:

For binocular speed dome cameras, the thermal image has vertical lines, and these lines still exist after switching the baffle.

Cause analysis:

The detector temperature is too high (60℃), resulting in high temperature noise.

Solution:

Upgrade movement program (versions after 20180724).

3.TPC images show abnormal temperatures.

Description:

Thermal images show abnormal temperatures, which can be recovered to normal after restarting the device.

Cause analysis:

The thermal imaging movement program occasionally shows bugs.

Solution:

Contact R&D technical support to upgrade the movement to the latest supporting movement program. Before upgrading, confirm the lens parameters on the advanced interface. After upgrading, confirm again whether the parameters are changed. If any, modify them manually.

4.TPC images have poor effect in low temperature scenes.

Description:

In the low temperature scenes, the thermal imaging effect is relatively poor, and also different at night and during the day.

Cause analysis:

In low temperature scenes, the target temperature difference is relatively small and the image contrast is relatively low. The temperature is lower at night than during the day, resulting in a slightly worse imaging effect at night.

Solution:

The contrast, sharpness and detail enhancement parameters of the thermal imaging channel can be appropriately increased (noise points will be relatively obvious if the parameters are too high).

5.The TPC image is blurry in outdoor scenes.

Description:

In outdoor scenes, the thermal image is relatively blurred compared with the indoor one.

Cause analysis:

In outdoor scenes, there are many moving objects, and it is better to set a high dynamic scene.

Solution:

For outdoor environment, it is recommended to set a high dynamic scene. For indoor environment, it is recommended to set a low dynamic scene.

6.The TPC image cannot show clearly the target in scenes with extremely high humidity in rainy and foggy days.

Description:

In the scene with extremely high humidity in rainy and foggy days, the thermal image is especially blurred and cannot show the target clearly.

Cause analysis:

In rainy and foggy days with high humidity, the target temperature difference is extremely small. Since thermal imaging is based on received thermal radiation, the imaging effect will be relatively poor.

Solution:

In rainy and foggy days with high humidity, the thermal image has poor but normal imaging effects.

7.There is no image under TPC imaging and the picture is completely black.

Description:

For binocular PTZ, there is no image under thermal imaging, and the picture is completely black. The stream is normal, and the picture does not change when a hand shakes in front of lens.

Cause analysis:

The old movement program may lock itself occasionally.

Solution:

Upgrade the programs in the following order:

8.The TPC image has especially large noises.

Description:

There is no obvious improvement by adjusting the image parameters.

Cause analysis:

The main program version of thermal imaging does not match the movement program version.

Solution:

According to the device, upgrade the supporting main program and movement program.

9.Blurred screen under TPC imaging.

Description:

Cause analysis:

Abnormal data output of thermal imaging movement.

Solution:

First try to restart the thermal imaging movement to see if it can be restored. If not, replace it.

Cause analysis:

The thermal imaging movement program is old, leading to this problem occasionally.

Solution:

1、Update to the latest supporting movement program.
2、Restart the thermal imaging movement or disconnect the device for restart on the debug interface.

1.False alarms generated by TPC cameras in high temperature environments

Correcting the face Box

Referring to the picture on the right, the position of the face comparison frame does not match the actual position of the face, and the recognition frame needs to be moved to the face

How to move the face frame?

Step 1: Click the image adjustment icon to enable the adjustment interface

Set target filter

Need help on site to test. The character stands 2 meters behind the black body, and draws the minimum size based on the size of the target face. After the drawing is completed, stick to the position 2 meters away from the black body, so that the character can be detected normally when one step forward, and no longer detected when one step backward.

Set Snap Angle Filter

Set the Snap Angle Filter and set the face angle to an appropriate threshold. If there are many high-temperature environments in the background, it is recommended to set the reference value to 20. At the same time, turning on the “Only Measure Forehead Temp” function can effectively reduce the false alarm caused by the background high temperature.

Adjust Temp Lower Limit

Changed the Temp Lower Limit lower from 32ºC to 25ºC. (The factory default value is 32ºC).In order to avoid the situation that the camera does not detect or detects less.

1.Question: The maximum temperature of the temperature rule is inconsistent with the maximum temperature in the picture on TPC

Solution: Set the Target Radiation Coefficient in the rule and the Target Radiation Coefficient in the global setup to the same value. Please refer to the picture below

2.Question: The TPC camera visible channel shows cryogenic protection, and the camera cannot zoom and focus

Reason: When the device reaches the temperature threshold of cryogenic protection (default is 10ºC), it will trigger the cryogenic protection function and affect the zoom and focus of the visible light channel.

Solution: Turn the heater on to automatic heating mode and set the turn-on temperature to -8ºC.Restart the device after the device warms up

3.Question: TPC channel shows abnormal temperature, which returns to normal after restart

1.Question: When the camera is zoomed, the OSD information in the preview interface is not displayed in real time on TPC

Reason: Browser plug-in compatibility issues

3.Question: The BF2221 TPC camera does not automatically turn on the fill light at night in certain scenes

Reason: BF2221 judges whether to turn on the fill light according to the visible light image. Under certain lighting conditions, the fill light is not sensitive to turn on.

Solution: Download the latest baseline: DH_TPC-BF2221-TB_Chn_P_V2.630.0000000.11.R.210803 and later version

4.Question: The TPC image of the BF1241 camera periodically becomes blurred, and then gradually recovers

Reason: The device periodically performs shutter calibration, but the shutter is not actually moving

Solution: If the device program is older, you can upgrade to 20210323.bin and later to observe. If the fault does not recover, it is a block fault, and the equipment needs to be returned for repair.

5.Question: The visible channel of the Dual-Len TPC device is completely black, with occasional horizontal stripes, and the image does not change, but there will be stream and OSD

Solution: Connect the thermal camera to the NVR in private mode or submit the weOR process for customization

2.Question: After changing the resolution of the visible channel of the TPC camera to D1, there will be false alarms in motion detection

Reason: bugs in old programs

Solution: Upgrade the program of the equipment to the corresponding latest baseline program

The thermal imaging device accesses NVR in private mode or initiates customization based on customization requirements.
