Recommended Guidelines/Best Practices when dealing with problematic lighting conditions.

  • Lighting should be stable and consistent.
  • IR illumination should be considered if proper lighting is an issue.
  • Low light produces noise that will trigger false alerts.
  • Avoid pointing the camera directly at light sources (i.e. sun, vehicles with headlights etc.).
  • Avoid or minimize shadows by re-positioning the camera or light sources.
  • Avoid the presence of trees and other vegetation in the camera's field of view to reduce false alarms (i.e. branches blowing in the wind).
  • Avoid the presence of water areas (rivers, lakes, etc.) in the camera's field of view. Masses of water can cause reflections and ripples in the water can cause false alarms.
  • Auto Exposure/Auto White Balance/Iris can make scene changes which will cause false alarms. Consider turning these functions off to reduce false alarms.
  • Entry points with revolving or sliding doors should be avoided as reflections will cause false alarms.
