How to Set Up Swann Security (VMX) for PC and Mac

NOTE: Support for Swann Security (VMX) is limited to installation and P2P connection setup only. Advanced network setup and port forwarding are not supported.
Access your Swann recorder remotely from your computer with ease.
This guide will walk you through installing the Swann Security VMX software on your PC or Mac, setting it up securely, and connecting it to your recorder for remote viewing.
Before you begin, ensure:
- Recorder Connection: Your recorder is connected to your router with internet.
- Pair to Swann Security app: It must be paired to your Swann Security account first to get the P2PUserName and P2PPassword (this is not the recorder's password)
- System Requirements: Your computer meets the minimum system requirements listed below.

Installation Steps:
- Open the downloaded file.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Login Using Its Default Password
When you open Swann Security VMX, a default UserName and Password are entered. These are both admin
Click to proceed.
Add Your Recorder
Click the then a pop-up window will appear.
Fill in the following details:
- Device Name: Assign a name for easy identification.

Group: You can leave it on
Default Group -
Login Type: Select
P2PID -
Port: Default is
9000 - P2PID: Enter the 20-character alphanumeric code found on your recorder.
- P2PUserName and P2PPassword: Reach out to Swann Support to get these. Both are case sensitive.

Username: Default is
admin - Password: Enter your recorder's admin password.
Click to complete the setup.
Why this helps: Adding your recorder links it to the software, enabling remote viewing and management.
View Your Cameras
After adding your recorder, click
To load all cameras, right-click on your added device, then select:
- for high quality video streaming or
- for a lower quality video streaming.
Alternatively, you can click and drag a channel to one of the boxes on the left.
Why this helps: This step ensures your camera feeds are visible and accessible for monitoring.
Troubleshooting Tips
Can't download the file using Microsoft Edge browser
We have received reports one some users that they have having issues downloading the file, and we found out that they are using Microsoft Edge.
To help you resolve this, go to this article and follow the steps carefully. Once downloaded, install the program, then proceed here.
Recorder Not Added Successfully?
- Restart your recorder and router.
- Verify the ID and credentials entered are correct.
Cameras Not Displaying?
- Confirm cameras are properly connected and powered.
- Check that cameras are streaming on the recorder's display.
- Try re-adding the recorder in the software.
Forgot the password of Swann Security VMX, and you can't login?
Uninstall the program, make sure user data is deleted (a prompt during uninstallation will appear about this), then re-install it.
WARNING: Recorders added to the software will also be deleted. Make sure you have the details of your recorder so you can add them again
