If you want to install an HDD into your DVR/NVR by yourself, please make sure your HDD is surveillance-only. Here are the reasons for not installing a desktop HDD.

1. Surveillance HDDs offer low-power profiles, which not only help with energy conservation, but also ensure cool operating temperatures and enhanced system reliability while working 24/7.

2. Surveillance HDDs provide reliability benefits far beyond desktop drives. The surveillance HDDs are designed for constant running 24/7, while the Desktop HDDs are designed to run lighter workloads—only eight hours a day, five days a week. If a desktop HDD is installed into the recorder, it will break down in 24 weeks because of the heavy workload.

Note: Be careful of the word Desktop or Surveillance on the  HDD surface when choosing an HDD.
