Why is my recorder asking for a password during setup?

Short answer: This is the recorder’s admin password — not your app password.

When adding a recorder to the Swann Security app, you must enter the recorder’s password, which is created during the Setup Wizard using a connected monitor and mouse.

If you did not connect a monitor and complete the setup wizard, the recorder password may not have been created properly. You’ll need to:

Do I need a monitor to set up my DVR or NVR?

All Swann Security recorders (except the MaxRanger4K™ Base Station) need to have a monitor and a mouse to complete the Set Up Wizard. Once done, you can disconnect them and the system will continue to function as configured.

Can Swann support recover my recorder password?
