SAFIRE LPR Camera -Installation and Configuration Manual
Installation Instructions
1.1 Installation location
The camera should be installed behind the barrier and in the direction of the vehicle, as shown in the picture
And the distance between the camera and the barrier cannot be too large, the smaller the better.
1.2 Installation height
The suitable installation height of the camera is between 1.6m and 2m
1.3 Angle of depression
The depression angle of the camera should be less than 30 degrees, that is, the angle between the camera and the horizontal line >25 degrees
1.4 The adjustment of the camera rotation angle
It is essential to strive to adjust the camera rotation angle to ensure that the license plate is parallel to the horizontal line. In addition, the deviation should be less than 5 degrees if the vehicle license plate is not horizontal in some conditions.
The software asks for this kind of requirements, the smaller the degree of deviation, the better the license plate recognition.
Configuration instructions
The camera settings can be mainly divided into three parts
- The configuration of the storage path
- the selections of the value of each parameter
- The drawing of the license plate detection region
2.1 Image and video storage
The manually captured image and recording will be saved to your PC directly, and you can change the storage path.
2.2 Checking the camera firmware
The firmware version can be seen through the information "sysytem=>system settings=>basic". It is necessary to check the firmware version to make sure that the software is the latest one.
2.3 Software update
Software upgrade can be done through "system=>Maintenance=> upgrade&Maintenance" and press the second browse button to import the upgraded file and after pressing the upgrade button, the system will be upgraded automatically. In addition, the camera will reboot after finishing the upgrade.
2.4 Video settings
There are two types of bitrate in total, and they are constant and variable respectively
Constant: the video will be taken at the same bitrate to ensure the video quality.
variable:
the video bitrate varies with the change of different network conditions to ensure the smoothness of the video
In addition, the maximum bitrate must be the maximum value, or the video will be indistinct
2.5 Exposure settings
In general, the exposure time varies from 1/175 to 1/250 depending on the ambient brightness and vehicle speed. A short exposure time will make the captured image dark, while a long exposure time will make the captured image unsharp. In addition to the exposure time, the gain also has an effect on the brightness and clarity of the image. The higher the gain value, the brighter the image. However, increasing the gain value will at the same time increase the noise in the image, which is the main factor that makes the image unclear.therefore, it is important to choose the appropriate value of exposure time and gain value.
2.6 Day/Night Switch
There are five types of Day/Night switching in this function module
- Day: the camera will always use the day model
- Night: the camera will always use the night model
- auto: the camera will switch the pattern automatically according to light changes
- Scheduled switching: the camera will switch the pattern only according to the customized time schedule
- alarm input triggered: the model only changes when a signal input is triggered.
Generally, we will choose the automatic model under universal conditions.however, it is essential to change it to the night model if the environmental conditions are too complex and the light is insufficient. To get a better image, you can turn on the IR light and you can adjust the model and brightness.
2.7 Backlight settings
BLC: Used to compensate the backlight effectively. It is enabled if there is a need if the camera is installed very close to the ground and car headlights may produce a backlight situation.
To adjust the backlight: "image=> backlight settings=>" custom. This function is applied under the condition that the brightness is not homogeneous in the camera view and the license plate recognition region is darker than other region. In this condition, the captured image is dark and increases the difficulty of the camera to recognize the license plate number.
You can draw the backlight compensation region manually. Theoretically, the backlight compensation region should include the license plate recognition region. Once the backlight settings have been finalized, you can ensure the image quality in the compensation region and avoid disturbances from outside the region.
2.8 Setting the license plate recognition area
The license plate recognition area can be drawn directly in the traffic module. The width of the region should cover the entire lane and the length of the region should ensure that the camera can obtain sufficient images when the vehicle passes through it. Theoretically, the best region length is 2 meters.
Abroad, we can choose the small plate model if the license plate height is less than 30 pixels. And the large plate mode will be used if the pixel height is more than 30. In the small plate mode, we should try our best to make the pixel height range between 25 and 30 in the LPR region.
2.9 Lens settings
We can configure the lens settings through: "Live view =>PTZ=> Zoom &Focus" as shown in the picture.
zoom function: used to zoom in and zoom out the lens to adjust the image size as shown in No. 1 in the picture.
focus function: used to adjust the clarity as shown in picture No. 2.
