A blind spot is an area of the room that isn't in the Field of View (FoV) of your camera sensor and hence where falls cannot be detected.

There are two types of blind spots:

  • The ones directly below your camera sensor.
  • The others are behind furniture like a bed, sofa, dresser, or around corners.

1. Under camera sensor blind spots

1.1 Corner blind spots

If your camera sensor is installed in a corner, the shape of the blind spot under the camera sensor is a flat quarter-circle of about a 45" max radius from the corner.

In the image below we can see the blind spot under camera sensor 1 in the corner of the room.

1.2 Wall bind spots

If your camera sensor is installed on a wall, the blind spot under the camera sensor will be in the shape of a flat half-circle of about a 45" max radius from the wall.

2. Furniture and corner blind spots

Furniture in the room such as a bed, a dresser, or a sofa can obstruct your camera sensor’s FoV. Entry hallways hidden around a corner, can also be blind spots if they are not included in your camera sensor’s peripheral vision.

Let’s look at a few examples of blind spots caused by furniture and wall corners.

In the room below the bed is away from the wall. We can see the furniture blind spot on the opposite side of the bed, and the corner wall blind spot in the entryway.

In the room below the bed is against the wall. We can see that there is no blind spot behind the bed. However, there is a blind spot around the corner in the entryway.

Read the camera sensor setup verification section to see where to place a second camera sensor to eliminate the blind spots and ensure maximum coverage of the room.
