NOTE: This is a supplementary article. Once you have finished the setup, you may proceed to the Setup Email Alerts article that is meant for your recorder.
Due to the recent changes implemented by Google, 2-Step Verification or 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) is now required when using App password. App password is used to let your recorder use your Gmail as the sender of alerts, instead of entering your main password.
Follow this Google article to turn on 2-Step Verification on your account if you have already created an App password. Otherwise, proceed to the steps below on how to setup 2FA and then create a new App password.
How to create an App password?
- A Generated app password window will appear. Copy and store the password somewhere safe before clicking Done.
- Use this password on your recorder's email settings.
NOTE: Once you close the window that has the password, you need to create a new one in case you forget it.
Don't forget to use the following for the SMTP settings on your recorder's email alert setup:
-
SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
-
Encryption: TLS
-
SMTP Port: 587
