[Windows-based NVRs] How to replace and set (NR9581-V2/NR9681-V2)SATADOM?

Answer

NR devices have their own SATADOM, which contains the system OS. In some situations (device repairs), you may need to replace the SATADOM. To do that, please follow the next steps.

IMPORTANT: Please be sure to perform this procedure in the problematic NVR because as soon as the SATADOM is replaced and the device is turned ON it will register the NVR MAC address internally so that only that device can use it. If you accidentally replace the wrong SATADOM, you will need to send it back so that it can be reconfigured. In addition, before changing the internal memory, please be sure that you already exported the server configuration files, please refer to the following link for more information:

Step 1: Check that you have all the replacing components at hand.

RMA replacement:
1 power cable
1 SATADOM

Step 2. Be sure to turn OFF the NR device (if possible, unplug the device power).

Step 3. Remove the HDDs from the NR. Be sure to remember the installation sequence.

Step 4. Open the NR top cover and locate the SATADOM.

Step 5. Carefully pull out the damage SATADOM and its power cable. Note: be sure to power down the device before pulling out the SATADOM.

Step 6. Connect the small 4-pin power cable to the SATADOM to the board. (Power cable is included inside the packet send by RMA).

Step 7. Connect the large 4-pin power cable of the new SATADOM to the power supply.

Step 8. Connect the SATADOM in the same slot as the damaged one. Note: connecting the SATADOM to different slots should not affect functionality, but we recommend  installing in the same slot.

Step 9. Turn on the system.

Step 10. Wait until the NVR finishes initializing (about 3 minutes), then you will see the following,

Step 11. Select Enter NVR and press “Enter”. Note: this interface is normal, each time the NVR is initialized or restarted it will ask you to choose between these four options.

Step 12. Wait until the OS finished the configurations, at this point it will also register the device MAC into the SATADOM and install the Licenses in the system. When the process is finished, a popup will appear informing that the process of installation has been completed. The information regarding the device model name, licenses, VAST2 version and MAC address will be show as well.

Step 13. Press OK to turn off the NVR.

Step 14. Shut down the device and insert the HDD back again into the NR. Be sure to put the HDD in the same sequence otherwise the data will mismatch and the data will be reformatted.

Step 15. After booting, please check HDDs configuration and recording videos. You can refer to the following video:
